The horoscope depicts the skies as a stylised map over a certain area at a specific time. In most cases the viewpoint is geocentric (heliocentric astrology being one exception). The chart includes the positions of the actual planets (including the Sun and Moon) as well as entirely calculated features such the lunar nodes, house cusps (including the mid heaven and ascendant), zodiac signs, fixed stars and the lots. Aspects are angular relationships between planets and other points that are commonly determined. Tradition influences how these characteristics are emphasised and interpreted. This suggests that the positions of the stars at the time of a persons birth reveal their characteristics and personalities even their flaws. Its a lot like the Chinese Zodiac.

Where did zodiac signs come from?

The stars are just one of many natural phenomena to which humans have looked for answers throughout history. We do not really know who came up with the idea of looking at things in nature and divining effects on humans says NASA Space Science Education Consortium director of Citizen Science Sten Odenwald. Theres some evidence that cave art depicts the concept that animals and objects might be imbued with a spirit form that has an influence on you and that if you please that spirit form you will have a good hunt. That was supplanted by the concept of divination which involves looking at things in nature and studying them closely such as tea-leaf reading.

What are the 12 signs of the zodiac

The 12 zodiac signs — Aries (March 21-April 19), Taurus (April 20-May 20), Gemini (May 21-June 20), Cancer (June 21-July 22), Leo (July 23-Aug. 22), Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22), Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22), Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21), Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec .21). These Western, or tropical, zodiac signs were named after constellations and paired with dates based on their apparent relationship to the suns position in the sky.
